Common questions

What's actually deducted from my salary?

Two big buckets: income tax (progressive bands) and social security (flat or capped percentage). Kenya pulls NSSF and SHIF; the UK pulls National Insurance; the US pulls FICA; SA pulls UIF; Nigeria pulls Pension and NHF. We model both buckets separately.

Why doesn't my employer match show in take-home?

Employer contributions don't reduce your gross — they're an additional cost the employer bears. We model the employee side only, since that's what hits your payslip.

Are reliefs and allowances included?

Standard deductions and base personal reliefs are applied. Tool does not model bespoke reliefs (mortgage interest, life insurance, dependents, NHIF, charitable giving). For those, your final tax bill is lower than what we show.

Monthly vs annual — does it matter?

Most regions tax annually but withhold monthly. The numbers we show are annual; divide by 12 for the payslip view. Some regions (KE, ZA) compute on monthly bands directly — for high salaries the answers can differ slightly from a strict annual calculation.
